About Galleries
You can create as many galleries as you like and upload as many images as you like into each gallery. The GALLERIES have been designed so that you can create a gallery for each different body of work. For example you may create galeries for paintings, sculpture and drawings etc.; or exhibition 1, exhibition 2, exhibition 3 etc.
TIP 1: It is advisable to create more galleries with fewer images, as galleries with many images will take longer to download. For this reason it is recommended to limit galleries to less than 1MB which is the equivalent to 10 x 100 k images or 20 x 50 k images.

Adjusting Image Sizes
Any image uploaded into your galleries is automatically displayed at 400 dpi wide and therefore visitors to your site will have to scroll up and down the page to see tall thin images. The other problem this poses is when an image less than 400 pixels is uploaded it is stretched to 400 pixels wide causing a distorted image quality. This problem is easily rectified as follows:
> To resize the display size of an image:
1. Click the GALLERIES link in the YOUR WEBSITE section of your back office.
2. On the GALLERIES page click the GALLERY containing the image you would like to edit.
3. On the EDIT THIS GALLERY page Click the EDIT button beside the image you are editing.
4. On the EDIT THIS IMAGE page, change the number in the IMAGE WIDTH (PIXELS): box (try setting the image at 200 pixels wide, and then check the change in the front end).
5. Click the UPDATE IMAGE DETAILS button at the bottom of the page.
Tip 1: Always check the change in appearance by clicking on the PREVIEW MY WEBSITE button and viewing the image in your front end.
Tip 2: Visitors can still view the image at its full size by clicking on the image on the Individual Image Page. The image will then appear at its full size in a separate pop up box.

Hiding Galleries and Images
You have the ability to hide a gallery or image from public view by clicking on the "DISPLAY" tick box on the EDIT THIS GALLERY page or the EDIT THIS IMAGE page. When the box is ticked it is viewable by the public.
TIP 1: When building a gallery hide it from public view until you have completed construction. Because changes are viewable instantly, it is possible for the public to view an incomplete gallery.
TIP 2: When using your artHIVES site as an archival tool, you may wish to store some documentary images in you galleries for you own record, but hide them from the public.
